AWS Equipment and Sensors

OSI Data Acquisition Platform (ODAP)

The heart of the OSI Automated Weather System (AWS) is the Data Acquisition Platform (ODAP). The ODAP is specifically designed to acquire, store, and disseminate data from meteorological sensors. The ODAP is extremely flexible and can be used in applications from small portable systems to permanent installations. Unlike other data loggers, the flexible ODAP interface makes the process of configuring AWS systems quick and easy.

Quality all weather connectors are provided for each sensor on the lower surface of the ODAP. The connectors on the underside of the enclosure provide additional environmental protection. The enclosure does not need to be opened to change sensors. The unit is available with built-in 3.4 amp hour rechargeable battery. The battery assures continuous operation during AC power outages. For sites where AC power may not be available an optional solar power kit is available.

Weather data can be averaged over user specified intervals. Serial output data is available in both OSI and ALOHA formats.

OSI MetData

OSI MetData is a Windows based meteorological data display and archive software. MetData allows the user to remotely change the configuration of the ODAP. ODAP sensor data is acquired over a serial data link. The data is graphically display. MetData stores archives the data into Comma separated value (CSV) files. The CSV format allows the data to be easily loaded into Microsoft EXCEL or other commercially available software packages for analysis or dissemination

OWI-430 Visibility and Present Weather Sensor (WIVIS)

The OWI-430 DSP-WIVIS is the most advanced present weather and visibility sensor ever made. The fully automated instrument provides accurate visibility, present weather and precipitation measurement in a single sensor. This next generation intelligent sensor uses all digital signal processing (DSP) for no-drift high-accuracy results. OSI’s patented environmentally adaptive algorithms use artificial-intelligence technology derived from over 100 million field hours of real-world data from our sensors installed around the world. The result is the most advanced weather sensor in the world.

2100-130 Wind Sensor
The 2100-130 wind sensor measures both wind speed and direction in a single sensor. The instrument is designed to operate over a temperature range of -30° to +70° C and with wind speeds up to 167 mph (75 m/s). Optional heaters are available. Wind speed is measured using a sealed reed switch which provides a series of pulses at a rate proportional to wind speed. Aluminum cups are used for durability and strength. Wind direction is measured using an aluminum vane directly coupled to a precision potentiometer. Variations in wind direction produce a corresponding change of voltage.

2100-110 Air Temperature and Relative Humidity Probe

The Model 2100-110 temperature humidity probe offers high accuracy and is designed specifically for meteorological applications. The probe has separate 0- 1 VDC linear outputs for temperature and humidity. Probe cable length compensation permits error-free signal transmission over distances up to 300 ft (100 meters).

The barrel of the probe is designed to protect the internal electronics under all weather conditions. All connectors and cable entry points have seals to prevent moisture entry. The internal electronics are conformal coated for further protection.

 2100-111 Self-Aspirated Radiation Shield

The self-aspirated radiation shield (SARS) provides solar protection and mount for the 2100-110 temperature and humidity probe. The SARS minimizes solar induced temperature measurement errors. The multiple plates of the SARS have a unique profile which blocks direct and reflected solar radiation, yet permits easy passage of air.

2100-111-1 Motor Aspirated Radiation Shield

The motor aspirated radiation shield (MARS) provides solar protection and mount for the 2100-110 temperature and humidity probe. The shield employs concentric downward facing intake tubes and a small canopy shade to isolate the sensor from direct and indirect radiation. A continuous duty 12 VDC blower draws ambient air through the intake tubes and across the sensor minimizing heat transfer to the sensor.

2100-120 Tipping Bucket Rain Gauge
The Model 2100-120 Rain Gauge is a tipping bucket rain gauge that measures liquid precipitation. This sensor is specifically designed to meet the National Weather Service's requirements for rainfall measurement.

An optional rain gauge heater 2100-121 is available where snow or freezing weather may occur. The rain gauge heater consists of two thermostatically controlled low-power heating elements that ensure operation during freezing conditions.

2100-101-2 High-Performance Barometric Pressure Sensor

The Model 2100-101-2 barometric pressure sensor is designed for use in environmental applications that require excellent accuracy, fast dynamic response, and long-term stability and reliability. The instrument utilizes a capacitive sensor and proprietary custom IC analog circuit. This fundamentally simple design and thermally stable glass fused ceramic sensing capsule is coupled with sophisticated capacitance charge-balance IC circuit where accurate signal conditioning and environmental compensation is performed. The sensor provides excellent thermal expansion coefficient and low mechanical hysteresis, which contributes to long-term stability. The 2100-101-2 Barometric Pressure Sensor is easily installed in the Model 2100-301 ODAP

 LOA-005 Long-baseline Anemometer
The LOA (or Long Baseline Optical Anemometer and Turbulence Sensor) is a highly specialized instrument designed to measure the path-averaged crosswind and turbulence along a particular distance. Originally developed by NOAA, the technology has been proved, tested, and operating in the field for almost thirty years. Since 1995, the LOA has been successfully tested for runway crosswind and wake vortex measurements at JFK and DFW Airports. Many government labs and military proving grounds use the LOA for wind profile and turbulence measurements. Set up is quick and easy. The LOA mounts on tripods.  The instrument can connect easily to an ODAP or directly to a PC.  The sensor is completely eye-safe so it can operate in public areas without intrusion or endangering bystanders. The LOA is ideal for critical homeland security applications such wind profiling and fallout tracking.

Tower Mounting
2100-420 30 ft (10 meter) Free Standing Tower
The 2100-420 is an 18" face triangular tower design using 1-1/4" 14 gauge steel side rails and solid steel 7/16" cross bracing. Three 10 foot sections make up the tower. Sections fit together with a double bolt joint for added strength. The tower sections are hot dip galvanized after fabrication to assure many years of trouble free service.
 2100-401 30 ft (10 meter) Tilt-Over Tower
No need to use an expensive bucket truck or risk climbing the tower. Sensors mounted at the top of the tower are serviced by turning a winch and lowering the tower. The Fold-Over assembly permits the installed tower to hinge at the 10' level. A hand operated winch lowers the upper section(s) of the tower to ground level for easy access to equipment mounted on the top of the tower. The 2100-401 is constructed of durable, non-corrosive, aluminum tower sections.
