He had visited Barcelona, Spain, in the 1920s during a tour with the drill team. While there, he saw the fascinating sights and sounds of Barcelona's fountains and was inspired to build a similar set of fountains in Jackson, Michigan. During the winter of 1931 to 1932, Sparks oversaw the construction of the Jackson Cascades. Today, this attraction provides visitors with cascading spectacles of water and light set to contemporary and classical music. On the whole, this site leaves visitors awed with its fabulous displays of light, music, and mist.
